Landscape Planting

At Brisbane Home Landscapes we believe that a well planned landscape design will lead to the ultimate crowning glory – a beautiful garden which will be the envy and delight of those who see it or spend time in it.

Elements of garden design require consideration for the horticultural requirements of the chosen plant types, their season-to-season appearance, lifespan, growth habit, size, speed of growth, and combinations with other plants and landscape features.

Consideration must also given to the maintenance needs of the garden, including the time or funds available for regular maintenance, which can affect the choices of plants for speed of growth, spreading or self-seeding of the plants, whether annual or perennial, and bloom-time, and many other characteristics.

The most important consideration in garden design is how the garden will be used, followed closely by the desired stylistic genres, and the way the garden space will connect to the home or other structures in the surrounding areas. All of these considerations are subject to the limitations of the budgetary concerns for the particular project and time.

Plant type and varieties

For our Queensland conditions it is always wise to give consideration to using native plants, and if your thumb tends to be less than green and you aren't someone who likes to spend your weekends gardening then there are drought proof plants which will still provide colour and other desirable elements to beautify your garden.

Depending on the overall design and effect you wish to create for your landscape, which will need to be carefully planned at the start, there are a myriad of plant options to choose from.

Our particular interest and specialisation at Brisbane Home Landscapes is garden horticulture. We are very experienced and well qualified to advise you on this most important aspect of putting the finishing touches to your landscape.

Horticulture

Horticulture is defined as the science, art and business of cultivating, processing and marketing of fruits, vegetables and ornamental plants. At Brisbane Home Landscapes we like to also bring environmental responsibility into consideration, advising clients on the types of plants which will best suit their needs but which will also not be water hungry and which may help reduce or eliminate the use of chemical pesticides through companion planting.

Fancy growing your own vegetables or culinary herbs? We can advise you on how to achieve this in the most effective way for your landscape and garden plan, with the least amount of damage to the environment.

Sustainable gardens

A garden can generate materials that may be harmful to the environment, such as greenwaste, polluted runoff of and chemical-laden water. The concept behind sustainable gardening is to reduce this impact without sacrificing beauty and ease of maintenance, or damage the hip pocket!

It may not be practical to adopt sustainability for all landscapes, but it is possible to make changes throughout the garden development process that will reduce the overall impact on the environment.

For example, plants that are indigenous to the Brisbane area are more likely to attract native birds and animals, such as frogs - to your garden. Apart from the aesthetic benefits this brings, they're a great eco landscaping feature. Native birds will help to reduce the insects living on your plants.

More and more people are becoming conscious of the need to reduce our ecological footprint and make environmentally friendly choices. At Brisbane Home Landscapes, we'd like to help you achieve this in your little corner of the plant!
